Routes
A route to make it to Costalegre is by the highway 80 that takes Acatlan de Juarez to Barra de Navidad in southwestern direction, passing by towns and attractive cities for the tourist settled in the mountain ranges of Quila, Ardillas, Manantlan and Perote; surrounded by mountains, thermal water rivers, dams and plains.
The second route is by the highway 200 that borders all the South coast of the State coasting a fascinating variety of beaches and rich tropical landscapes. It goes from Barra de Navidad in the southwest to Quemaro Beach in the northwest. This is the farthest point from the State Capital but it is also the one that count with a greater attractive and natural enchantment.
Barra de Navidad
Here is where beaches of Costalegre begin and finish 95 km to the northwest, near Quemaro Beach. At the beginning it was named Xalisco Port; it had several names until the 25 of December of 1540 that was named Quemaro which remains to the present time. Now the inhabitants of this region (fishermen) happily receive the lovers of surfing, aquatic ski, diving and fishing sport.
Bahía de Chamela
Passing kilometer 72 the town of Chamela, considered the main tourist center of the zone of Costalegre. This small bay is conformed by 9 islands and several small barren islands that serve as home for an ecological reserve of aquatic and land animals and in a beach of more than 10 kilometers. The islands are: Colorada, Cocina, San Andres, Pasavera (reserve of birds and ideal place for diving), Novilla, Esfinge, San Pedro, San Agustin and the Negrita. This entire zone is suitable for the practice of aquatic and fishing sports.
Bahía de Tenacatita
Passing the Melaque Bay, you will find the Bay of Tenacatita, one of the largest in Mexico. Privileged fishing spot for crab, snail, clam, lobster and squid, depending on the time of the year; all these species can be savored in the installed rustic restaurants near the beach. This zone very is preferred by the foreign tourists, because it remains almost intact by modernity. People say that this is one of the few places of the Mexican littoral that in the winter time, the sun rises and sets by the sea, depending on the position of the observer.
Tomatlan
Its name means: “Place of tomatoes” or “Place next to the tomatoes”. There are studies that confirm that there was settlement in this zone that dates from 2000 years B.C. nevertheless it has not been possible to determine its origin. Here you will find the main salt mines of the state of Jalisco. Costa Majahuas, with its almost virgin beaches; the Cajon de Peñas Dam (the biggest of the state), where it is possible to camp. It offers ecotourism activities, the archaeological zone the Pintada is one of the main the attractions of this region.
Campos de Golf en Costalegre
Golf is an activity that has received great demand and popularity anywhere in the world, and this zone also counts with fields adapted for this activity. One of them is the golf course Navidad Island, one of most luxurious of the world, with 27 holes that offer spectacular views to the ocean, the mountain and to the lake; designed by Robert Von Hagge. The contrasts in the light, the surface and the wind are a challenge for all the levels on greens that extend towards the lake and mountains.
Another golf course is the Tamarindo with 18 holes, pair 72; designed by the famous designer David Fleming.
